Mining & Quarrying

The progression of sand and gravel operation begins with a source. The source is either a pit, dry river bed or wet river bed among others. The sand and gravel is retrieved by means of a drag line, dozer, loader or a dredging operation. The material is hauled, pumped or carried by a conveyor to screens, where it is screened to various mesh sizes. The different mesh sizes are usually carried by a conveyor to a location where it can be hauled away or stockpiled for future use.

The sand and gravel industry is not new to Lubrication Engineers. Lubrication Engineers has been serving customers all over the world for many years. The harsh environment demands superior lubricants. Lubrication Engineers accepts this challenge and understands the needs of this industry.

Engines will be used where electric motors are not used because the equipment is in a remote area or is portable. All rolling stock such as loaders, dozers, draglines, trucks, pick-ups and cars have engines. Floating dredges, pumps, conveyor, and screens could also be powered by engines. These engines are used in some of the most severe conditions such as dirt, moisture, heat. cold. heavy shocking loads and sometimes continuous operations. To solve these issues, try the following products: 8800 MONOLEC® ULTRA Engine Oil , 8130 MONOLEC® ULTRA-BLEND Engine Oil , and 2300 L-X® Heavy-Duty Chemical Supplement.

Transmissions are found in all of the rolling stock. Both torque converters and manual transmissions are used inthis type of equipment. Typical problems include moisture. dirt, grit, dust and heavy loads. The 7500 MONOLEC® Power Fluid is reccomended. For manual transmissions, use 703 & 704 MONOLEC® Gear Lubricant. For differentials, gearboxes and open gears on draglines typical problems encountered include wet, dusty, hot and cold operating conditions, vibrations. heavy shock loads and long continuous operations. Lubrication Engineers recommend 1601-1609 DUOLEC™ Vari-Purpose Gear Lubricant, 703 & 704. Also consider using our highly successful line of 5180, 5182, 5100 PYROSHIELD® .

Hydraulics are found on leveling cylinders. dozers, loaders and dump trucks. Traditional problems include continuous operations in dirty wet environments and heat problems such as foaming, leaks, fading and chattering. We recommend our 6801 - 6807 MULTILEC® Industrial Oil.

Cables are used on draglines, winch lines and tie downs. Cable strands work against themselves. Being run on pulleys, sheaves and spools of druums puts lines through severe conditions. Dirt and water get into the cable strands and cause abrasion, rust and corrosion. Appropriate products include 2001 MONOLEC® Wire Rope Lubricant , 2002, 2002AALMASOL® Wire Rope Lubricant .

Finally, electric motors are also used in sand and gravel operations and are found on all equipment not powered by gasoline and deisel engines. Most common applications include dredges, water pumps, conveyor belts and screens. Problems include dirt, water, heat and being overloaded with coontinuous operations. Lubrication Engineers recommends 1274, 1275, 3751 and 3752.
