The Raptor Wire Rope Lubricator is now available through a "GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION" network, contact Lubrication Engineers for details of your nearest distributor.
The Raptor Wire Rope Lubricator provides fast and effective lubrication of wire ropes from 8mm (1/3") to 62mm (2.5") in diameter, at speeds up to 1000 metres per hour. It eliminates the slow and labour-intensive task of manual lubricant application, at the same time achieving more thorough results by forcing lubricant under pressure right through to the core. Applications include: Marine - Mooring & Anchor lines, deck winches, wharf cranes, ROV umbilicals, submarine wire ropes, diving boats, goods cranes. Industrial - Overhead cranes, mobile cranes, NDT Inspection services, mining winder ropes, hoist ropes, wire rope manufacture.
The system consists of a pressure vessel - known as the Lubricator Collar - which houses a pair of polyureathane seals sized to suit specific size ropes. The whole assembly is simply clamped around the rope and anchored to a fixed point, and the rope pulled through by the winch. Lubricant is pumped utilizing a high pressure grease pump into the Lubricator collar, where it is then forced between the strands to the centre of the rope as it passes through the seals. The result is a fully lubricated wire rope with a smooth minimal film of lubricant on the outer strands. Scraper plates at each end of the collar remove dirt and old lubricant.
The benefits of the Raptor Wire Rope Lubricator over conventional, drip / brush / spray or other collar systems are substantial. The Raptor also operates at a higher pressure than most other lubricator collars on the market which only use a few hundred psi pressure.
Wire Rope Lubrication
The role of the wire rope lubricant is to reduce scuffing wear on the outer strands and sheaves, lubricate the rubbing between strands and importantly to protect against corrosion. Wires move relative to each other as the wire rope passes around sheaves and drums. Rubbing occurs between the wires as they move - the smaller the sheave diameter and multiple sheaves mean the greater the wire adjusting movement and the more rapid that rubbing and fatigue wear may occur. Every wire through the length of the rope must be free to move and adjust. Unless it is correctly lubricated to the core, this essential movement cannot take place. Fatigue life of ropes can also be greatly extended by proper lubrication, when the wires can move freely to equalize stress distribution caused by sheaves or drums. Finally, lubricant must reach fiber cores or they will absorb moisture and encourage corrosion from the centre.
Total Lubrication Solution - LE452 - Almasol Wire Rope Lubricant
Lubrication Engineers recommend the use of LE452 Almasol Chain and Cable lubricant in conjunction with the Raptor Lubricator. This NLGI 00 semi fluid grease is a tacky, water resistant, semi-fluid lubricant that penetrates all wire rope strands ensuring smooth operation and extended cable life. The use of LE452 will reduce lubricant sling off which can occur when using conventional lubricants. This is particularly important when lubricating wire ropes used in proximity to marine environments and makes the use of Almasol LE452 an environmentally friendly product. Almasol LE452 protects wire ropes against corrosion in the harshest of environments and is used by many marine operators in direct contact with salt water. Almasol LE452 provides excellent wear protection for the outer strands of wire ropes and sheaves, particularly in applications such as winder drums where ropes are wound tightly against each other.
LE2001 Monolec Penetrating Wire Rope Lubricant
LE2001 is a penetrating type wire rope lubricant which has excellent capiliary action that allows it to penetrate to the core of wire ropes and chains. The tenacious lubricant film will protect against aggressive corrosive environments while not attracting dirt and dust like other grease type wire rope lubricants. Applications include shipping, wharf cranes, high temperature corrosive fumes found in foundry applications, drill rig pull down ropes and chains, overhead cranes. LE2001 has also been used as a rust preventative corrosion protector for equipment being put into long term storage.
