Raptor Wire Rope Lubricator

The lubrication of wire ropes is a field where huge savings are available by ensuring that the ropes are correctly lubricated. Contrary to common belief effective lubrication of wire ropes can extend their life by many years generating cost savings that massively outweigh the initial cost of a high performance lubricant.

Wire ropes are subject to failure in two areas - internal and external and it is essential that the choice of lubricant reflects the areas of concern and failure. We can offer L.E. wire rope lubricants with special properties to provide the type of protection necessary, plus the means of applying them.

Too often wire rope lubricants, which only give a covering to the external surfaces, are used leading to failure internally with fretting strand breakage and sprags.

LE produces wire rope lubricants that penetrate to the core of the rope and provide long term lubrication between each individual strand.

External corrosion is another major problem for wire rope life and LE produces wire rope lubricants that will withstand the wettest of conditions including regular immersion in salt water. Not only does this greatly extend the interval between lubrication applications but also extends the life of ropes working in such arduous applications.

A third major cause of wire rope failure is the pick-up of contaminants by the rope lubricant, particularly in the mining industry, which often means that wire ropes are not lubricated at all. Lubrication Engineers produces wire rope lubricants with a tough, clean protective film which prevents corrosion and wear but will not pick-up contaminants.

Lubrication Engineers wire rope lubricants are environmentally friendly because they require far less lubricant to be applied -sometimes up to 80% less - and because they stay in place on the ropes rather than being slung or washed off.

The Raptor wire rope lubricator provides quick, clean application of wire rope lubricants.

Effective Wire Rope Lubrication
A rope is only fully protected when every wire in it is lubricated. Wires and strands move relative to each other to compensate for the difference in diameter between the inside and outside of each bend in the rope as it passes round sheaves and drums.

Rubbing occurs between the wires as they move - the smaller the sheave diameter for a given rope, the greater the adjusting movement and the more rapid the wear. Every wire through the length of the rope must be free to move and adjust. Unless it is surrounded by lubricant, this essential movement cannot take place. Excessive wear will shorten the life of the rope.

Fatigue life also is greatly extended by proper lubrication, when the wires can move freely to equalize stress distribution. Finally, lubricant must reach fibre cores or they will absorb moisture and encourage corrosion from the centre.

The RAPTOR Solution
No brush or drip-fed method can achieve the level of lubricant penetration achieved by the RAPTOR Wire Rope Lubricator. It provides fast and effective lubrication of wire ropes from 10mm to 100mm in diameter, at speeds up to 1000 metres per hour. It eliminates the slow and labour-intensive task of manual lubricant application, at the same time achieving more thorough results by forcing lubricant under pressure right through to the core.
